Farm Assistant

We have an exciting opportunity for a Farm Assistant to join our team for the 26/27 season, milking 1000 cows through an 80 bail rotary shed.

The farm is set in a great location in the heart of mid Canterbury, 10mins from Hinds, 25mins from Ashburton, and 20mins to Geraldine. The 240ha property has a good layout out with great modern infrastructure.

Farm Details:

• 80 bail Milfos shed, ACRs
• Protract drafting 
• In-shed feeding
• 4 on farm staff + CM & calf rearer
• Cow Manager Tags 
• System 3-4
• 240ha fully irrigated by 4x centre pivots & 30ha of k-line in the corners

As a Farm Assistant you will play a role in the day to day running of the business supporting the contract milker and the 3 other staff in the team. We are looking for a trustworthy, reliable person that takes pride in their work and is motivated to achieve results at a high level. Must have the ability to work alone or within the team, be productive and create efficiencies while helping to maintain a positive, friendly work environment that is safe for everybody.

You must be competent or willing to learn in the following areas:

• Farm plant and machinery operation and maintenance
• Pasture management and feed allocation 
• Effluent and irrigation systems 
• Animal health and hygiene - mastitis, hoof trimming & lameness
• Good communication and time management skills
• Be part of a team and teach others when required

Eligibility

• Applicants must be currently living in NZ with at least 1 year on-farm experience
• Hold a current NZ full drivers licence
