The Calf Rearer is responsible for the daily care, feeding, and welfare of calves on the farm. This role supports the farm team by ensuring calves are healthy, well-fed, clean, and kept in a safe environment.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and feed milk, milk replacer, water, and calf feed according to farm instructions.
- Clean calf pens, feeding equipment, buckets, and work areas to maintain high hygiene standards.
- Monitor calves daily for signs of sickness, injury, stress, or poor feeding.
- Report any health or welfare concerns to the supervisor or farm manager immediately.
- Assist with moving, handling, tagging, weighing, or separating calves when required.
- Maintain accurate records of feeding, treatments, deaths, and other calf-related information where required.
- Follow all animal welfare, biosecurity, and farm health and safety procedures.
- Assist with general farm duties when required.
Skills and Requirements:
- Previous calf rearing or farm experience is preferred but not essential.
- Must be reliable, patient, and confident working with young animals.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
- Good attention to detail and awareness of animal health and hygiene.
- Must be physically fit and able to work in farm conditions.
