Calf Rearer

Job Description

The Calf Rearer is responsible for the daily care, feeding, and welfare of calves on the farm. This role supports the farm team by ensuring calves are healthy, well-fed, clean, and kept in a safe environment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and feed milk, milk replacer, water, and calf feed according to farm instructions.
  • Clean calf pens, feeding equipment, buckets, and work areas to maintain high hygiene standards.
  • Monitor calves daily for signs of sickness, injury, stress, or poor feeding.
  • Report any health or welfare concerns to the supervisor or farm manager immediately.
  • Assist with moving, handling, tagging, weighing, or separating calves when required.
  • Maintain accurate records of feeding, treatments, deaths, and other calf-related information where required.
  • Follow all animal welfare, biosecurity, and farm health and safety procedures.
  • Assist with general farm duties when required.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Previous calf rearing or farm experience is preferred but not essential.
  • Must be reliable, patient, and confident working with young animals.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Good attention to detail and awareness of animal health and hygiene.
  • Must be physically fit and able to work in farm conditions.
