2IC / Herd Manager- Hinds, Mid Canterbury

We are seeking a motivated and reliable 2IC/Herd Manager to join our family owned dairy farm in Hinds, located just 20 minutes south of Ashburton.

Our farm milks 390 cows through a well maintained 40 aside herringbone shed with automatic cup removers, in shed feeding, an auto drafter, and Cow Manager technology. We take pride in operating a tidy, efficient farm with well maintained property, machinery, and systems, and are looking for someone who shares these values.

The Role

This is a hands on position working alongside the farm owners and involves assisting with the day to day management of the farm, including:

• Milking and operating the dairy shed
• Identifying and treating sick cows
• Maintaining accurate animal health and farm records
• Tractor work 
• Shifting a Roto Rainer and managing a centre pivot irrigator
• Assisting with feed budgeting and pasture management
• Recording and reporting through systems such as MINDA and Cow Manager
• Supporting environmental and compliance requirements
• Maintaining high standards of health and safety
• Taking responsibility for the farm and staff management in the manager's absence

What We're Looking For

The successful applicant will:

• Have at least 2 years of dairy farming experience (more experience preferred for the 2IC role)
• Be motivated, reliable, and able to work both independently and as part of a team
• Have good stockmanship and animal husbandry skills
• Take pride in maintaining high standards around the farm
• Have good communication and organisational skills
• Show initiative and a willingness to learn and take on responsibility
• Be currently living in New Zealand with a valid work visa

The position includes a modern three bedroom farmhouse, approximately three years old, with a heat pump and internet supplied.
