Assistant Herd Manager – “Rising Herd Manager”

Job Description

Our family-owned and operated farm, just 10 minutes from the lovely town of Waiuku and around an hour from Auckland, is something we are incredibly proud of. We milk 430 Jersey/Jersey-cross cows through a 40 aside herringbone shed on 161 hectares of well cared for land, and we run a tidy, organised operation where standards matter.

While we are still very hands-on, we are now looking for the right person who is currently a dairy farm assistant who is looking to eventually step into a Herd Manager role and become a key part of the future of our farm. This is not just about filling a position — it’s about finding someone we can trust to take increasing responsibility.

You will need to be confident in your ability and comfortable working unsupervised across all core areas of the farm. This includes milk production and quality, animal health and wellbeing, mating and AI, feed allocation, tractor work, calving and calf rearing, and maintaining the overall standard of the farm day to day.  We do use herd monitoring technology with automatic drafting, so you’ll need to be comfortable working with systems and using data to support decision making.

What matters most to us is attitude and ownership. We are looking for someone who communicates well, works hard, takes pride in what they do, and treats the farm as if it were their own. In return, we are committed to supporting the right person to genuinely grow their career — not just in words, but in the level of responsibility and trust given over time.

We offer a competitive salary package based on experience, a well-maintained modern 3-bedroom home, and a safe, well-run workplace.  We value work/life balance and believe in looking after our people properly.  We are also a drug-free and smoke-free farm.

If you’re serious about progressing in the dairy industry and want to be part of a farm where you can step up and be trusted to make a difference, we would like to hear from you.
