Dairy Farm Assistant

Job Description

Looking for a supportive team this season?

We're looking for a motivated Dairy Farm Assistant with at least one full season's experience to join our team.

If you're reliable, use your initiative, communicate well, take pride in your home and workplace, and love working outdoors with animals, we'd love to hear from you!

Why join us?

We're proud of the team and culture we've built. We run an organised farm where everyone works hard, supports each other and enjoys coming to work. There are plenty of 5.30am smiles in the shed, and some mornings the radio isn't the only singing you'll hear over the sound of the milking plant.

We've been on this farm for over 15 years and provide a supportive environment where people can learn, grow and enjoy what they do. We believe happy staff make a great team, and we work hard to create a workplace where people feel valued and respected.

Whether you're looking to build your dairy career or you're already experienced and simply want to work with a great crew, we'd love to hear from you.

What we offer:

  • A supportive team environment.
  • An organised farm with established systems.
  • On farm training and opportunities to learn new skills and progress within the dairy industry.
  • A positive workplace where hard work is appreciated and everyone is treated with respect.
  • A workplace where you'll be encouraged to ask questions, keep learning and enjoy the job.

Your role may include:

  • Milking twice a day.
  • Maintaining high standards of animal health and stockmanship.
  • Keeping the shed and surrounds clean and tidy.
  • Putting up break fences.
  • Shifting cows and calves.
  • Bringing herds in for milking.
  • Changing bulls during the breeding season.
  • General farm maintenance and day-to-day seasonal tasks.

You'll need:

  • A full New Zealand driver's licence.
  • To be drug-free and able to pass regular drug testing.
  • To be confident riding two-wheelers and quad bikes. Tractor experience is an advantage but not essential.
  • New Zealand citizenship or residency.

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Honest and reliable.
  • Takes pride in their work and home.
  • Has a positive attitude.
  • Communicates well.
  • Gentle and respectful with stock.
  • Keen to learn and be part of a team.

Sound like you?

Send us your CV and a short cover letter telling us a bit about yourself and why you'd like to join our team. Please don't use ChatGPT to write your cover letter. We'd much rather hear about you in your own words. We are interested in your personality, your experience and what you're looking for in your next role.

Please note

  • Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
  • We are not accredited employers, so we cannot employ applicants on work visas or provide sponsorship.
  • Please apply only if you are a New Zealand citizen or resident.

Thanks for taking the time to apply. We look forward to hearing from you!
