Attractive Calf Rearing Position

Job Description

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and reliable calf rearer to join our team for the upcoming calving season on our 650-cow dairy farm, located in Dacre (just 20 minutes from Invercargill).

This is a sole calf rearer role, with regular support from the herd owner to help ensure workloads are manageable. Weekend work is covered by the herd owner or can be negotiated.

The Role

  • Rearing approximately 165–180 replacement calves, with the remainder sent as bobbies
  • Calves fed twice daily initially, transitioning to once-a-day feeding
  • Use of automatic calf feeders to help reduce workload and improve efficiency
  • Monitoring calf health and wellbeing
  • Maintaining tidy and accurate records
  • Keeping calf sheds clean, organised, and hygienic

What We’re Looking For

  • A patient and caring approach to animals
  • Good observation skills and attention to detail
  • Strong work ethic and reliability
  • Ability to work independently with support when needed
  • Experience preferred but not essential – training provided for the right person
