Dairy Assistants – 2 Positions Available

2100-Cow Winter Milking Farm

We are young couple transitioning from Management to our 1st year contract milking business. We are  looking for 2X Dairy Farm Assistant to join our team on a large, modern, well-run operation.

Farm Overview

  • 2200 cows – System 5
  • Fully autumn calving
  • Winter milking operation
  • 800 ha effective
  • 60-bale rotary with ECRs
  • Automatic teat spray
  • Milk Hub, Automatic drafting,
  • Halter
  • Wintering barns for 1000 cows
  • Rear 500+ replacements
  • 5–6 herds year-round
  • Winter and summer crops
  • Maize grown on farm

Roster

  • 6 on 1 off, 5 on 2 off

Role Overview

This position offers excellent learning and career growth opportunities. You will be supported and encouraged to take responsibility for your daily tasks, which include:

  • Milking cows efficiently and safely, cleaning shed, yards and shed hygiene following SOP's
  • Understanding milk quality, training will be provided (Policies and SOP's in place)
  • Assisting with moving animals safely, observers problems and reports to Manager
  • Watching/learning and reporting any animal health issues
  • Assists with moving handling and rearing calves safely. Is building awareness of good health, hygiene and welfare for newly calved cows and young calves.
  • Learning record keeping
  • Assists with weed control on farm, spraying, grubbing
  • General cleaning, maintenance on farm
  • Understands and aware of personal growth opportunities on farm

Ideal Candidate

  • Having some Qualifications or some relevant experience is an advantage, but we can train you if you are ideal candidate
  • Motivated and eager to learn
  • Able to work well within a team
  • Confident riding a two-wheeler
  • Honest, reliable, 
  • Drug and smoke free
  • Must have current employer reference, ex-employer or tutor reference
