Experienced Farm Assistant – 215 Cows (10 Mins from Invercargill)
Location: Tisbury / Invercargill area (10 minutes east of town)
Hours: Roster cycle of 4-on, 1-off / 6-on, 3-off
Remuneration: $30 – $40 per hour (depending on experience)
About the Role
Join a high-performing, small-scale dairy farm milking 215 cows through a 24-aside herringbone shed. You will work directly alongside the hands-on owner-operators in a supportive environment. The shed is highly automated, featuring automatic yard wash, vat wash, plant wash, ACRs, and automatic teat spraying. Halter smart collars, no shifting electric fences!
Key Responsibilities
- Milking & Quality: Efficient milking with a focus on high milk quality standards.
- Animal Health: Monitoring, treating, and keeping accurate health records.
- Stock Management: Safe animal handling and managing daily feeding regimes.
- Shed & Infrastructure: Maintaining shed hygiene, tracking records, weed control, and fencing.
- Winters, we are self contained with 2 support blocks, young stock and cows are break feed over the winter at these properties.
Schedule
- Roster: A consistent 4-on, 1-off / 6-on, 3-off rotation.
- Milking Times: Cups on at 6:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience: Minimum of 2+ years of dairy farming experience. You must like cows and not mind milking them, except for the spring you will be sole charge at the shed.
- Licence: At least a valid New Zealand restricted driver's licence.
- Fitness: Physically fit, injury-free, and capable of active farm work.
- Character: A reliable, honest worker with a strong work ethic. Pre-employment drug and criminal history checks may be conducted.
- Housing Note: No accommodation is available on-site. This role is perfectly suited for someone who already lives in, or wants to live in, Invercargill.
