Job Description

We’re looking for a reliable Farm Assistant who is confident with core farming skills and keen to keep learning. We milk 650 cows on 259ha of flat terrain through a 54‑bail rotary DeLaval shed with digital monitoring tools.

Role includes

All aspects of day‑to‑day farm tasks in a supportive environment with quiet cows, including:

  • Milking in a 54‑bail rotary
  • Stock handling and animal health checks
  • Break fencing and pasture monitoring
  • Effluent management
  • Shed hygiene and general farm duties
  • Feeding out (tractor experience an advantage)
  • Using digital monitoring tools as part of daily routines

Roster is 6 on 2off.

We’re looking for someone who

  • Has at least one year’s NZ dairy farming experience
  • Is competent with milking and feeding
  • Follows instructions accurately
  • Has a solid work ethic and takes pride in their work
  • Communicates well and works well in a small team
  • Is interested in using farm technology
  • Holds a full driver license
  • Already lives in NZ with a valid work visa (We are not an accredited employer.)

About Telford Dairy Unit

Our current farm assistant leaving the country because of his family issues. We are now looking for an experienced farm assistant to join the team. We milk 600 cows through 54 bail rotary shed.
