Herd Manager - 950 cow Dairy Operation
Location: Ngatea (Close to coromandel peninsula)
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Herd Manager to join our progressive 950 cow dairy farm. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who takes pride in stockmanship, enjoys a team environment and wants to be part of a well-run, high performing operation.
About the role
As Herd Manager, you will play a key role in the day-to-day management of the herd and support the Farm Manager in achieving production and animal health targets. You will be responsible for maintaining high standards of animal welfare, pasture management and team performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily management of a 950 cow milking herd
- Animal health monitoring and treatment
- Mating management and heat detection
- Calving management and young stock oversight
- Staff supervision and training
- Fencing Maintenance
- Loading and Feeding out
- Milking ( including plant hygiene and maintenance checks)
- Record keeping and farm compliance
- Assisting with feed allocation and pasture management
About you
We're looking for someone who has:
- A practical approach and good problem-solving skills
- Sound knowledge of animal health and handling
- The ability to work independently and manage time efficiently
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Tractor and machinery operation experience
- Ability to work rostered hours including weekends
