We run a majority autumn calving system with a small spring calving component on 154 Ha near Arapuni in the South Waikato.
Classed as a system 5 farm with inshed feeding year round and feedpad use from February through the winter or as needed. Feeding mainly maize, PK and grass silage.
Production is about 240,000KgMS, 500KG/cow. Young stock grazed off generally from weaning.
Traditionally we have grown turnips for summer, kale and maize on farm.
The farm is rolling with some steeper sidlings. About 10ha of pines have been planted on the steeper land with other areas retired into native bush with an ongoing planting program. Plenty of mature trees to provide shade and enhance the environment. Several duckponds have been fenced and planted as well.
There are two 3 bedroom homes and a single mans unit on farm for accomodation and one house has a self contained room attached to the garage.
Very close to the Waikato river and Lake Arapuni with recreational facilities at Jones Landing just down the road. Waotu Primary school is not far away with a school bus at the gate.
