South Bar is a scenic family farm in the Ruapehu district, with flat to gentle rolling contour and stands of native bush scattered throughout. The facilities are modern and well-kept, and include a spacious milking shed and purpose-built calf-rearing shed.
We get plenty of frosts in the cold months and plenty of rain in the dry months. The mountain keeps our weather interesting, for certain! The farm is 15 minutes to Ohakune, Raetihi, or National Park; 80 min to Taupo or Whanganui; 120 min to Palmerston North. Ample opportunity for outdoor pursuits exist literally on the doorstep in down-time.
We are blessed with high calibre, long term staff members and an excellent surrounding community that make it all worth while. The people, the schools, the churches, the environment are all top-notch, in our opinion.
