Milking’s are done through a modern 54 bail rotary which has ACR’s, automatic teat sprayer, protrack, BCS camera, auto drafting, in-shed feeding and milk meters. This shed can be fully operated by one person meaning each staff member has to do less milking on average. The farm is currently on production system 2 (less than 14% of feed is imported) where the cows are feed a mostly grass diet where they are supplemented in the shed with PKE and silage in the shoulders of the seasons. The cows are then wintered mostly off farm on a runoff conveniently located 7km down the road. Irrigation is a mixture of fixed grid, k-lines, long lines and pivots. The k-lines and longlines are slowly being phased out as each year more of the farm is converted into fixed grid to use water more efficiently and save time throughout the year.

Temporary Farm Assistant – Calving Season (North Otago) We're looking for an experienced farm assistant to join our team on a large-scale 1,200-cow dairy farm at Maheno, North Otago, from now through to the end of December. This role has come up due to an unforeseen off-farm injury to existing staff, and is a temporary/seasonal position covering calving, with potential to lead into full-time work for the right person.
