Awanui Agriculture is a contract milking business owned and operated by Nick and Tina Giera. We contract milk two farms in the foothills in Mid Canterbury. Ruapuna Farms is a 375 hectare pivot irrigated farm with high-quality infrastructure. Cow walking distances are no more than 1.3km and lanes are kept in good condition. Wintering, feed, replacement grazing and grain are sourced from a Support Block close by. The farm has been a monitor farm in various DairyNZ projects to improve the environmental sustainability of dairy farming.
72 Below is a 274ha non-irrigated dairy farm peak milking 710 cows. The farm is close to Mt Hutt and the winter tourist town of Methven. Part of the herd is wintered on the dairy farm and it is managed at a lower stocking rate than most irrigated dairy farms around Canterbury.
