My clients farm is situated just outside of Hamilton, within walking distance of primary schooling and close to all amenities. The farm is 165ha and grows all it’s own maize on farm. The milking platform is 120ha effective on peat soil and is a predominantly flat farm. Milking 370 Friesian cows with ave B/W 91/44 and PW 109/59 through a 24as hb shed with modern fittings and all systems in good order along with up to date gear and equipment and brand new herd shelter being built for the 2019/20 season. Owners are excellent communicators and good teachers and are looking for a keen herd manager who is keen to learn and progress. For the right candidate this position has terrific opportunities. The farm assistant role is available for a keen partner or we will advertise later as a drive in role and is expected to be full time over calving and mating and then part time – helping with milkings thereafter, hence the roles could ideally suit a keen couple. To apply for this position the junior herd manager must have at least: • 2-3 years dairy farming experience in New Zealand. • Primary ITO Level 2 (Time off will be available to further this study) • Excellent communication skills. • Be honest and reliable. • Animal health and pasture management skills. • Be willing to take direction whilst still able to think for themselves. • Be proactive with health and safety and committed to record keeping – including timesheets. • Be willing to submit to a pre-employment drug test. • Be legally able to work in New Zealand now. The part time farm assistant must be: • Able to work full time over calving and mating. • Be calm and capable with livestock as the primarily the role will require assisting with milkings after calving and mating. • Be proactive with health and safety and committed to record keeping – including timesheets. • Legally able to work in New Zealand now.
