Sterndale runs 1500-1700 cattle based around the 600 cow herd and some trading cattle.
It is a self contained business on 700ha in Totara Valley near Pleasant Point, South Canterbury.
The 85 year old stud holds two on farm auctions of bulls each year with over 150 bulls sold predominately to hill and high country stations across Canterbury and Otago. Embryo transplant and AI programs are run annually.
It is an intensive cattle business which is why applicants from the dairy industry will be welcomed.
