32084 Edendale Dairy

The farm is located on State Highway 1 and Donald Road just minutes west of Edendale township and the Fonterra factory. This is a great location for families, staff, schooling, and all amenities. Gore is 20 minutes to the north and Invercargill 25 minutes east. The farm is circa 75% flat with balance medium/gentle contour with some sidlings. Land area is 239 hectares title with estimated 226 hectares effective which is milking platform. Of this area, normally 4 hectares is planted in kale for cows to come home to post calving. A well-appointed 50 bale centrally located rotary cowshed with in-shed feeding and ACR’s allows shed to be operated by one person. Effluent consent is for 700 cows and recently renewed. Effluent is separated by weeping walls at sludge bed and into clay lined pond. Application is through pods and underground hydrants. Farm is well laned internally with good standard of fencing throughout. Gravel pit is on site for lane and trough maintenance. Three houses are on farm including 3 bedroom new home built in 2020 which is currently utilised by farm manager. There are two other good houses on farm, one being 4/5 bedroom and the other 4 bedroom. All houses are accessed off Donald Road. Calf rearing facilities and gravel-based silage pad. The farming system is focusing on per cow performance with feed inputs of circa 1t/cow of in-shed feeding/silage. Fertility is all at optimum levels with good balance of soils and sound regrassing history. The farm produced 355,816 kg MS ex 700 cows in 2022/23, and 351,977 kg MS ex 700 cows in 2021/22. This averages 1,565 kg MS/hectare and 506 kg MS/cow. The plan for new 50:50 sharemilker is essentially the same performance and farming system however open to different suggestions.
