This 338 effective hectare dairy farm peak milks 1,320 crossbred cows through a 70 bail DeLaval Rotary Shed with drafting, automatic cup removers and in-shed grain feeding. Five full time farm staff are required plus the contract milker. The farm is fully irrigated through 300 ha of centre pivot with the balance sprinklers. Irrigation water is sourced from the MHV Irrigation Scheme and bores. Historical production averages over 600,000 kgMS and budgeted production is 580,000 kgMS.
The production system is based on growing and harvesting pasture. Supplementary feed is mainly used in the shoulders of the season (early spring and late autumn) and for small feed deficits during the milking season. Imported supplement inputs are moderate at 550 kgDM/cow.
