Our dairy farm is situated on the Inch Clutha delta which is known for its great free draining soils and reliable production. The farm has been totally regrassed with the most productive dairy pastures and is currently being turbo charged more with some of the lastest and productive pasture species. The farm has some of the best shelter in the district comprising of mostly poplars.
At Lawson Road Farm Ltd we wish to continue to grow the business within its boundaries with continued pasture technologies, better genetics and being on the fore front of new innovations. We have a 50-bail rotary with automation including cup removers teat sprayer auto draft, computerised feed heads and Allflex collars, automated measuring pasture system and two years ago We bult two new 75-meter herd homes with adjoining silage bunkers, used for wintering and use a feed out when required. Our effluent system comprises of two easy to shift cobra irrigators with auto shutoff and txt start up. The effluent pond has 60-80 days storage.
The dairy herd is on track this season for 537 milksolids per cow per year, for a total of 430000kgs 1800 kgs msha. Currently it’s a system 4-5 farm with imported feeds being 2-4 kg feed every day through the season. We take pride in our amazing well grown dairy herd. It is in the top 15% of herds in NZ for BW/PW and has very good udder confirmation and a low SCC of between 100 and 150- for the season.
We want to continue to peak 800 cows and increase our yearly production targets.
