Massey University’s Dairy 1 Unit requires an enthusiastic sole charge relief milker on its 260 cow OAD farm. This position requires someone who is reliable, honest, has excellent animal husbandry skills and is a motivated self starter. The successful applicant will be required to undertake milking by themselves in the absence of the manager therefore solo milking experience is needed with the ability to be able to identify sick cows, spot lameness and mastitis, have basic tractor skills and is capable of milking the herd in a timely matter.
The hours will be around 20 hours per week but this could get up to 40 hours per week when the manager takes annual leave during the school holiday period. There is an opportunity for more hours to be worked when required.
The farm is 120ha of flat land with some sprinkler irrigation and is a low input system. 260 spring calving cows are milked OAD all year round in a 24 aside herringbone shed.
