Our 880ha (660ha effective) dairy & beef farm is situated within 30 minutes’ drive of Kerikeri, Kaikohe & the beautiful Bay of Islands. The Coast-to-Coast cycleway passes nearby.
Our system 1 feeding philosophy aims to minimise our environmental impact, and we aspire to improve the health of our waterways and significant areas of native flora & fauna. We aim to eliminate pigs, possums, feral cats, rats, mustelids and invasive weeds.
Approximately 570 spring calving cross bred cows are milked once a day through a 30ASHB shed equipped with ACRs. All calves born are reared with help from seasonally employed calf rearing staff. Weaned calves are raised on the 400ha beef area, which adjoins the 260ha dairy platform.
The Paysauce payroll app is used to ensure employees are paid for every hour worked. A 12 & 2 roster is used for the 5 months from the start of calving in July until the end of mating. Workdays during calving are approximately 9-10 hours long (7am to 5pm-ish). By mid-December an 11 & 3 roster is achieved for the remaining 7 months of the year. We are open to innovations in roster design.
Our permanent staff is comprised of 2 beef herd managers, a dairy farm manager and a dairy farm assistant (the vacant position).
