We are looking for a motivated energetic person to join our team. Ideally this person would have some experience in the daily farm tasks and experience milking in a herringbone shed. We milk 750 cows in two herds through a 40 aside shed on a 174ha milking platform with attached 118ha support block for silage, wintering, r1 and r2 heifers. Duties will include but not limited to, milking, break feeding, weed control, fence and farm maintenance, calf rearing and young stock care. Applicants need to be currently in nz with relevant visa as we are NOT accredited employers, and be able to attend an on farm interview.   We can offer the successful person a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, support ITO training if desired. We are looking for a Herd Manager who is excited about the dairy industry and keen to further their career. Blackford Farming is an established family business.  The farm is 303ha, un-irrigated, with a 60 bail rotary shed, milking 1000 cows. The shed is modern, its fitted with ACR’s, auto teat sprayer, Protrac and Herd-i.  We have Halter cow collars and we have a composting shed that holds 300 cows. We run automatic calf feeders, we rear 300 calves.  All cows are wintered off farm at grazing blocks.  A minimum of 2 years experience within NZ dairy farming is preferred.  The role requires you to have a good understanding of cowshed practice, efficient milking skills, be able to treat animal health issues and record them, be able to treat lame cows, monitor and record pasture management.
