We are requiring a new person to join our team for the 26/27 season.  This position could be good for someone who is a farm assistant looking to move to a herd manager position. You will need to have a minimum of 2.5 years of Nz dairy experience, preferably on large herd farms.  Our farm is situated halfway between Methven and Ashburton.  We are fully irrigated and run a 54 bail shed. We are looking for a Herd Manager who is excited about the dairy industry and keen to further their career. Blackford Farming is an established family business.  The farm is 303ha, un-irrigated, with a 60 bail rotary shed, milking 1000 cows. The shed is modern, its fitted with ACR’s, auto teat sprayer, Protrac and Herd-i.  We have Halter cow collars and we have a composting shed that holds 300 cows. We run automatic calf feeders, we rear 300 calves.  All cows are wintered off farm at grazing blocks.  A minimum of 2 years experience within NZ dairy farming is preferred.  The role requires you to have a good understanding of cowshed practice, efficient milking skills, be able to treat animal health issues and record them, be able to treat lame cows, monitor and record pasture management. We are in search of a motivated person to milk cows and manage the feeding of cows and calves on our dairy farm in the South Island of New Zealand. Other general farm duties such as farm maintenance, wintering cows and animal health will be required for this full time role.
