Feed Production Management • Assist with any feed planning or the management of as appropriate. • Assist to manage weeds and pests to maintain pasture and crops. • Milking • Maintain all appropriate effluent management records. • Know what to do when things go wrong. Animals • Implement animal health program to maintain good health. • Assist with calving and the calf rearing program to achieve minimal losses and ensure high quality replacements are available for the herd. • Assist to manage repairs and maintenance schedule for all plant, machinery and infrastructure. • Ensure all relevant company policies are understood and adhered to. We are seeking an experienced reliable and motivated Farm Assistant to join our team on a 300 cow dairy farm.  You will be part of a team responsible for day -to- day operations on the farm. The herds are split with 230 Twice a day and 70 once a day, working in a 20 aside hearing bone shed Key responsibilities will be: Milking cows and maintaining milking shed hygiene Feeding and caring for livestock Assisting with animal health (identifying sick cows, basic treatment) General farm duties including fencing, weed control, and maintenance Operating farm machinery (where experienced) Ensuring high standards of animal welfare and farm safety You will be working unsupervised at times as well as in a team, alongside Farm Manager and permanent relief staff. A bit about Wakapua Farm The farm is set on 150ha located in South Horowhenua, down Kuku Beach Road, with a support block located nearby in Manakau. We are milking around 320 spring calving cows through a 25 aside hearing bone. We operate a predominately grass system with the strategic use of supplements through a 123 metre long covered feedpad. The farm operates with 2 full-time staff on a 11/3 roster. Having been in the industry for over 45 years, we believe that we have created a great operation and that we are excellent employers.
