Job Description

After 7 years with us one of our team members is retiring from the dairy industry, opening up an opportunity for someone new to join our farm team.

We are looking for an experienced and capable Herd Manager to join us on a well-set-up, self-contained dairy farm milking 750–800 cows.

This is a cow-focused role for someone who enjoys working with cows and takes pride in maintaining a high standard of animal care and performance.

Working closely with the owners and other staff, you will be involved in the day-to-day management of the herd, along with other general farm tasks.

You will:

  • Be experienced in herd management and confident working with cows
  • Have a sharp eye for cow health and general animal husbandry
  • Be reliable, practical and willing to get stuck in
  • Be able to work independently and use initiative
  • Be a good communicator – strong English essential

Previous dairy experience in NZ is essential, you must be located in NZ and available for an on farm interview.

We peak milk 745 cows on a 260ha milking platform which consists of flat to rolling contour with some steeper areas. The farm is running a pasture based system with in-shed feeding & some silage used on the shoulders of the season. All farm infrastructure is modern and of a high standard to enable efficient management. We have approx 220ha of adjoining support land to enable us to run a fully self contained system. We have adjoining support land which enables us to be fully self contained wintering all cows and running youngstock.
