Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Herd Manager to help manage a 1,300-cow dairy farm milking through a 60-bale rotary shed. This is a fast-paced farming operation with some steep contour, so previous dairy farming experience is essential.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 12 months' experience as a Herd Manager.
- Full driver's licence.
- Drug-free and willing to undergo random drug testing.
- No criminal convictions.
- No pets permitted on the farm due to farm policy.
- Preference will be given to applicants willing to live on the farm due to the requirements of the role.
Roster:
- 5 days on, 2 days off, followed by 6 days on, 1 day off.
Salary:
- $65,000 to $72,000 per annum, depending on experience.
- Minimum guaranteed 40 hours per week.
Duties Include (but are not limited to):
- Taking responsibility for day-to-day farm operations.
- Running the dairy shed.
- Effluent management.
- Feeding and animal nutrition.
- Completing tasks with minimal supervision.
- Supervising and training other staff members.
- Assisting with milk quality management and troubleshooting.
- Treating livestock and maintaining accurate animal health records.
- Calving cows.
- Understanding mating management and identifying cows on heat.
- Looking for opportunities to improve farm efficiency and productivity.
