we are looking for a person who can handle the workload of a dairy farm well.
This is a hands-on role with a barn-feeding system. Early-morning work may be required to bring cows to the barn for feeding before morning milking.
Tractor skills are essential. The Herd Manager will feed cows silage/bailage and operate the mixer wagon every day, so they must be confident and safe using tractors and feeding machinery.
Key responsibilities
Run daily milking operations, including plant preparation, milking routines, hygiene, and milk-quality standards.
Operate tractors, feed-out equipment, and the mixer wagon safely and efficiently every day.
Feed bailage, silage, supplements, and mixed rations accurately while minimizing feed wastage.
Essential requirements
At least two years’ New Zealand dairy-farming experience.
Strong tractor and machinery-operating skills, and feed-out experience.
This position reports to the contract milker and follows DairyNZ Herd Manager expectations for daily milking, feeding, animal care, effluent, health and safety, and farm-efficiency responsibilities.
