Herd Manager position available – Dairy Farm  - SHARED ACCOMODATION
Rakaia, Canterbury, New Zealand  
  
We are seeking an experienced and reliable Herd Manager to join our dairy farming operation located in Rakaia, Canterbury. Our farm milks approximately 840 cows through a herringbone shed and operates Roto-rainer and pivot irrigation systems. We are looking for an experienced herd manager, who is willing to commit to the herd manager role over multiple seasons. 
Key Responsibilities:  
- Daily management and care of the dairy herd  
- Milking in a herringbone shed  
- Animal health monitoring and treatment  
- Pasture management and feed allocation  
- Operating and maintaining farm machinery  
- Tractor work including feeding out and general farm duties  
- Motorbike operation for stock movement and farm tasks  
- Competent with irrigation systems including Roto-rainer and pivot operation  
- Maintaining high standards of animal welfare and farm hygiene  
Requirements:  
- Minimum 3 years dairy farming experience in a herd management role  
- Skilled tractor operator  
- Skilled motorbike rider  
- Full and clean New Zealand driver’s licence  
- Ability to pass a drug test  
- Willingness to complete a full police check  
- Reliable, hardworking and able to work as part of a team  
- Must be eligible to obtain a suitable New Zealand work visa
-Must be competent in transitioning cows on and off of winter crop (Foddabeet), able to work independently during the winter period.
- Confidence to take shared ownership of intensive health and safety program.
