Dairy Herd Manager

Job Description

We are looking for a Dairy Herd Manager for a 500 cows, 50 bale rotary and mixed topography Halter farm in Okoroire near Tirau.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform milk harvesting tasks efficiently and safely.
  • Understand and adhere to milk quality regulations.
  • Assist with cleaning and maintaining milking equipment; report faults.
  • Safely move and handle animals; monitor and report on their wellbeing.
  • Observe and report any signs of ill health in stock.
  • Assist with the safe handling and rearing of calves.
  • Develop skills in observing, recording, and reporting on cows preparing to calve; assist with calving.
  • Assist with mating management and heat detection; understand breeding for herd improvement.
  • Help with weed control and learn about animal health issues related to crops.
  • Assist with feeding stock and managing changing feed needs during lactation.
  • Help with pasture and feed allocation; set break fences and feed out as directed.
  • Operate and maintain the dairy effluent management system; follow the effluent plan. 
  • Assist with maintaining the water system; report issues. 
  • Identify hazards, follow safety procedures, and report near misses and accidents.
  • Be aware of the farm's health, safety, and wellbeing responsibilities.

The applicant must have 

  • High level of physical fitness, must be drug free and have a clean police record.
  • English communication and tractor driving skills.
  • Minimum of 2 years of nz dairy farming experience.
  • At least 2 references
