Experienced Herd Manager wanted to join our 770-cow dairy operation in Northern Southland.
We are looking for a capable and motivated Herd Manager to join our team on our 770-cow dairy farm near Riversdale, Northern Southland.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced dairy farm worker who takes pride in their stock, enjoys working with cows and wants to be an important part of an exciting new farming operation.
As Herd Manager, you will play a key role in the day-to-day management of the herd, with a strong focus on animal health, welfare, production and maintaining high farm standards.
The role will include:
Day-to-day management and care of the 770-cow herd
Monitoring animal health, condition and performance
Identifying and dealing with animal health issues promptly
Assisting with calving, mating and herd health practices
Maintaining high standards of animal welfare
Assisting with milking and maintaining excellent milking practices
Following farm systems and contributing to efficient day-to-day operations
Accurate record keeping and communication with farm management
Working positively as part of a team
Taking responsibility for the herd and ensuring high standards are maintained
We are looking for someone with at least two years of New Zealand dairy farming experience who is ready to take responsibility and make a positive contribution to the farm.
You will ideally be:
Experienced in managing dairy cows and confident working with a large herd
Reliable, hardworking and self-motivated
Passionate about animal health and welfare
Able to recognise problems early and take appropriate action
Organised and able to follow farm systems
A good communicator and team player
Comfortable working independently and taking responsibility
Keen to develop your skills and contribute to the success of the farm
Applicants must already be based in New Zealand, have a minimum of two years' NZ dairy farming experience, and hold a valid New Zealand work visa.

Riversdale, Northern Southland location with great local schooling
6 days on / 2 days off roster
6 days on / 1 day off during calving
Four-bedroom cottage accommodation on farm
Pay rate based on experience and ability
