Herd Manager

We are looking for a motivated herd manager to join our farm.

About the farm:

We milk 700 cows twice a day through a 50 aside herringbone shed on a system 4 farm on the Hauraki Plains. The cowshed has automatic cup removers, automatic teat spraying and automatic drafting.

We operate a split-calving system, with cows equipped with Allflex collars, utilising a feedpad year round.

About the role and what we are looking for:

The focus of the role is:

• Milking: Manage efficient and hygienic milking routine. Follow procedure to produce high quality milk.
• Animals: Manage safe handling of animals, report any health and welfare issues as per farm policy.  Manage the moving and handling animals safely and observe and report on wellbeing.
• Farm Maintenance: Carry out weed control, fencing and other general farm duties as directed.
• Environment: Understands regulations and management of nutrients, effluent and water and their most efficient use.
• People - Manage and work well with others, with good communication. There will also be times where you work on your own.
• Machinery and vehicles - Operate and maintain of vehicles and machinery on farm, including tractors and 2 wheeler motorbikes.

We are looking for someone who is reliable, honest and has a positive attitude. 

Remuneration will be paid on an hourly rate and based on experience. Guaranteed minimum of 40 hours per week.

The applicant must have the right to work in New Zealand, and have a minimum of two years of New Zealand dairy farming experience.

Under our health and safety policy, this is a drug free farm. We may undertake drug testing (including pre-employment).
