Job Description

A herd Manager is required to work as part of the team to implement the agreed farm management plan. that will include the following responsibilities:

  • Carry out milk harvesting tasks safely, efficiently, and correctly, and assist in training new employees on correct techniques.
  • Assist with solving milk quality problems
  • Helps farm assistants to understand factors that affect milk quality, hygienic milking, and mastitis control procedures.
  • Clean and maintain the milking plant and farm dairy equipment and carry out hygiene inspections.
  •  Move and handle animals safely, identify and diagnose animal health issues, and assist with treatments and prevention in line with farm policy.
  • Records and maintains all herd health treatments and events according to on-farm policy or dairy company policy, as advised by the manager.
  • Observe, record, and report on cows preparing to calve, and calves in line with farm policy.
  • Assists in feed budget and feeding out
  • must perform general farm duties such as tractor work, vehicle and shed maintenance.
  • Follows all policies and procedures and to the health and safety requirements.
  • Report directly to the farm manager/employer

Must have more than 2 years dairy farm experience in NZ.

Must be physically fit. Criminal & drug checks will be considered for the role. Strictly alcohol and drug free. Regular unplanned drug testing will be done. Willing to undergo drug test prior to employment. Must have a current drivers license.

 No pets allowed in the shared accommodation. No smoking/vaping allowed in the shared accommodation and sheds.
