Job Description
We are looking for a reliable and motivated Herd Manager to join our team on a 1,000-cow split-calving, System 5 dairy farm.
This role is primarily focused around the dairy shed and calving operations, with an emphasis on animal health and welfare.
Key Responsibilities
- Checking springer cows and identifying cows close to calving.
- Assisting with calving and providing appropriate care to cows and calves.
- Treating sick cows as directed and maintaining accurate treatment records.
- Supporting herd health and ensuring high animal welfare standards.
- Operating a telehandler safely for daily farm tasks.
- Driving and operating a mixer wagon to prepare and feed stock.
- Assisting with general farm duties as required.
What We're Looking For
- Experience working with dairy cows, particularly during calving.
- Confidence in identifying and treating common animal health issues.
- Experience operating a telehandler and mixer wagon (or willingness to learn).
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
- A strong work ethic, reliability, and a commitment to animal welfare.
- A positive attitude and willingness to help where needed.
