We are on the hunt for an enthusiastic new team member to fill our Herd manager role.This roll will require pasture management and herd health skills to be applied on a daily basis along with good communication skills when working alongside us as contract milkers.
Candidates considering this role should be practical, hands on farmers with passion and dedication to dairy farming and cows. We will expect the successful candidate to carry out their work to a high standard, taking pride in its completion and presentation. This business has a strong focus on shed hygiene, and animal health and comfort - having achieved grade free status for a number of years, it is expected that all team members understand the importance of milk quality. If you have experience shifting k line that be would be good.
We will offer $35-36 per hour depends upon experience and we guarantee 35-50 hours week.
Key Responsibilities
Herd and Milking Management:
Supervise and participate in milking routines, ensuring high milk quality standards.
Identify and address issues related to milk production and mastitis prevention.
Operate and maintain milking systems, ensuring cleanliness and efficiency.
Animal Health and Welfare:
Monitor cow health and behavior, identifying early signs of illness or stress.
Assist with calving, calf rearing, and ensuring young stock are healthy and well-fed.
Stock and Feed Management:
Plan and implement feed schedules, including pasture management and supplementary
feeding.
Ensure appropriate grazing rotation and break feeding.
Maintain water systems and ensure livestock always have access to clean water.
Farm Maintenance and Infrastructure:
Maintain fences, sheds, and farm equipment in good working condition.
Manage weed and pest control strategies to ensure optimal pasture conditions.
Record Keeping and Compliance:
Keep accurate records of herd performance, treatments, and milk production data.
Leadership and Team Support:
Assist in training and mentoring junior farm staff.
Promote a positive and safe working environment, following all health and safety
protocols.
Skills & Experience Required
Minimum of 1 year’ experience in dairy farming, or similar role
Knowledge of animal husbandry, herd health management, and pasture management.
Experience with milking systems, farm machinery, and general maintenance.
Excellent record-keeping and ability to follow farm management plans.
Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
No pets are allowed in the accomodation
