We are seeking a highly dependable and conscientious Herd Manager to join our team in Carterton, Wairarapa. Candidates must possess a minimum 2 years of experience in New Zealand dairy farming.
We milk 550 cows twice a day through 40 aside herringbone shed.
The successful applicant will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, including dairy shed management, effluent management, and feeding protocols. This role requires the ability to execute tasks autonomously, provide supervision, and train junior staff. We are looking for an individual who proactively identifies opportunities for process improvement to enhance business efficiency and effectiveness.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Milking: Implementing and maintaining efficient and hygienic milking routines.
Animals: Ensuring the safe handling of livestock, maintaining accurate records, reporting, and addressing any health concerns.
Feed: Managing weed control, establishing break fences, and distributing feed as directed.
Environment: Contributing to nutrient, effluent, and water management initiatives.
People: Supervising junior farm staff and fostering a collaborative team environment.
Machinery, Vehicles, and Technology: Operating and maintaining farm machinery and vehicles safely.
The compensation for this position ranges from $30 to $35 per hour, with a guaranteed minimum of 40 hours per week.
