Farm Manager – Awamoko Dairy
Location: North Otago (Oamaru region)
Roster: To be discussed / Competitive
Technology: Fully integrated Halter system
About the Role
Awamoko Dairy (part of Marchwood Farms) is looking for an experienced, tech-savvy Farm Manager to lead our progressive dairy unit.
If you are passionate about high-performing pasture management, top-tier animal health, and leveraging cutting-edge ag-tech to make farming smarter, not harder, this is the role for you. We have completely transitioned away from traditional fences and intensive physical herding, running our herd entirely on the Halter collar system.
Key Responsibilities
Tech-Driven Herd Management: Oversee daily herd health, heat detection, and automated drafting using Halter data and insights.
Precision Grazing: Utilise Halter’s virtual fencing to optimise pasture allocation (kg/DM per cow), monitor daily paddock covers, and protect regrowth.
Team Leadership: Manage and motivate on-farm staff, ensuring a safe, efficient, and positive working culture.
Reproduction & Performance: Monitor calving recovery and heat metrics through the app to achieve exceptional mating results and high-quality milk in the vat.
What We Are Looking For
Proven experience in a 2IC or Farm Manager role within New Zealand's dairy sector.
Strong digital literacy and enthusiasm for ag-tech (prior Halter experience is an advantage, but full training will be provided).
Communication: Must speak and understand fluent English to ensure seamless communication with the manager, team, and rural professionals. As well as a team-player attitude.
A proactive attitude toward cow welfare, pasture utilisation, and farm infrastructure maintenance.
Full New Zealand driver’s license.
What’s in it for you?
A Smarter Work Environment: Say goodbye to rolling up breaks, setting standards, or chasing down cows. Halter frees up your time so you can focus on the strategic tasks that actually drive the business forward.
Competitive Remuneration: Attractive salary package matching your experience, including comfortable on-farm accommodation.
Career Growth: Work within the supportive framework of Marchwood Farms, offering excellent long-term development opportunities.
