Herd Manager - Jamieson Dairies

Set 20km north of Ashburton, Jamieson Dairies is Spectrum Group’s flagship dairy operation — a large-scale, high-performing business powered by a strong team and experienced leadership.

Jamieson Dairies is looking for a Herd Manager to join their team.  The preferred applicant will be favourable if they have:

-have a minimum of 3 years experience in NZ farming 

- have assisted with training of junior staff

- have experience with plant management 

- have experience with pasture management

Key activities in this role (but are not limited to); milking cows (responsible for plant set up/cows in and out of shed/plant and dairy hygiene), feed management (responsible for shifting irrigators/management of cows allocated to paddocks/fert spreading/break fencing), general care of stock (responsible for stock care/animal health treatments), farm maintenance (responsible for weed spraying/tidy work environment), stock records, staff management (assists with staff supervision and coaching), health n safety and farm administration.

We are looking for an employee who is passionate about farming, are reliable and able to work well within a team environment.  A drug test may be requested prior to confirmation of starting this role. We hope to fill this position with an employee looking for long term farm progression.

Jamieson Dairies operational facilities include:

• • An 80-bail rotary dairy with technological enhancements to support our Group strategy of providing greater time flexibility and focus on animal welfare.

  • ACR’s with auto-teat spray.

  • Pro-track drafting with individual in bail cow ID and Allflex collar monitoring.

  • In shed feeding (grain, minerals, molasses) with individual feeding module.

  • Effluent applied by injection to main pivot irrigation system.

  • Complementing the business is the long-term lease of a neighbouring 80ha property which provides a portion of the supplement and winter grazing requirements for the dairy
