We are seeking an experienced and motivated HM to join our dairy operation based in the Rotorua region. This is an opportunity for someone who is passionate about animal welfare.

Farm Details

• 360-cow dairy operation
• 230-hectare high-input farm
• Covered barn and feed pad system
• Shared accommodation available
• Guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week

Roster

• 6 days on / 1 day off over calving
• 12 days on / 2 days off for the remainder of the season

Salary

• $64,000 – $66,000 per annum, depending on experience

About the Role

As Herd Manager you will play a key role in the day-to-day management and performance of both the farm and staff.. You will be responsible for monitoring herd health, implementing preventative health programmes, maintaining accurate records managing repairs and maintenance, pasture management, training staff, compliance checks, and maintenance.

Skills and Experience Required

To be considered for this role, applicants must have:

• A minimum of 18 months’ dairy farming experience
• Proven experience completing:
  • at least two full calving season, and
  • at least one full mating season
• Strong animal husbandry skills
• Proven tractor driving ability
• Experience operating feed-out machinery and mixer wagons
• Experience with record keeping and compliance
• A strong work ethic and positive attitude
• Ability to lead a team whilst working well within a team environment

Additional Requirements

• Applicants must have a clear criminal record
• Pre-employment and random drug testing will apply
• Applicants must be drug free
• No dogs permitted on farm
• Preference will be given to applicants willing to live on farm
• This is a smoke-free and vape-free environment, including inside accommodation
