Job Description

We are seeking a person with at least 2 years experience in the New Zealand Dairy Farm industry who is willing to work with a great long standing team, milking 1000 cows through a a modern 60 bale rotary shed. Pivot irrigation.

 

Located in Mt Alford Canterbury

 

Modern two bedroom house available. School bus at the gate

 

Role Responsibilities:

  • Milking: Manage an efficient, hygienic, and stress-free daily milking routine and train junior staff on correct techniques.
  •  
  • Animal Health & Welfare: Diagnose common ailments, administer treatments, and manage calving, mating, and reproduction records in line with farm policy.
  •  
  • Feeding & Pasture: Assist in setting break fences, allocating feed, and ensuring high pasture utilization, under the direction of the Farm Manager.
  •  
  • Staff Management: Supervise and train junior and relief staff, fostering a strong team and safety culture.
  •  
  • Environment & Maintenance: Monitor effluent spreader systems and assist with general farm maintenance (e.g., fencing, weed control).

 

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 2years of dairy farming experience in New Zealand.

Strong stockmanship with a genuine care for animal welfare.

  • Sound knowledge of mastitis detection, animal health treatments, and pasture management.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and lead a small team.
  • Relevant agricultural qualification

 

Hours & Roster:

  • 45 hours per week
  • Roster: 6 days on, 2 days off
