Senior Herd Manager or Herd Manager, Close to Ashburton, Large team = job variety

We're looking for an experienced Senior Herd Manager or Herd Manager to complete our team at Singletree Dairies, less than 10 minutes from Ashburton. With a 7, 2, 7, 2, 7,3 roster and 10 in 7 milking schedule from early January - this is a job with lifestyle! However you must be in NZ currently, and entitlement to work in NZ to be considered.

We have a large team milking 2400 cows - which means lots of different jobs to do, less early starts and less milkings to complete each week. You'll work with our experienced team members in the day to day running of one of our 500 cow herds and the following tasks:

• Milking: completed efficiently and hygienically, monitoring cell counts and withhold periods.
• Shed maintenance: Ensure plant set up according to policy.
• Stock handling: Shift stock as directed reporting any wellbeing issues, monitor herd condition and take necessary animal health action, maintain stock records.
• Irrigation: managing allocated irrigation to maximise pasture growth, shifting irrigation systems, ensuring compliance of effluent irrigation in accordance with procedures.
• Pasture/feed management: managing the dietary requirements of cows to maximise production, completing farm walks, allocating feed, putting up reels in accordance with the grazing schedule, keeping pastures free of weeds, assisting with harvesting supplements and fertilizer spreading.
• Calving: identifying and assisting calving cows, treating down cows, moving calves to appropriate sheds, feeding calves.
• Farm maintenance: mowing, spraying, fencing, cleaning sheds, disposing of rubbish, purchasing supplies.
• Machinery: Maintaining and cleaning tractors and motorbikes, reporting any faults immediately to our in house Engineer.

For your work you'll be paid a salary rate of between $80 - 95,000pa (or the equivalent hourly rate of $29.97.- $33.22) based on experience and ability. To be considered for this role you must have a minimum of 2 years experience or Level 4 qualification in agriculture. We will consider drive in applicants, otherwise there is on-farm standalone accomodation available for market rate rent of between $300 per week. Must hold full drivers licence.

What’s the farm like? Located 10 minutes from Ashburton, Singletree Dairies is an 600ha dairy farm milking 2400 cows at peak through a 80 bail rotary with in shed feeding, protrack and cup removers.
