Herd Manager

We are looking to employ an enthusiastic experienced individual to join our team. You will join the 3 others on the cow Dairy as Herd Manager.

We are split calving 900 cows on flat terrain with the addition of inshed feeders, covered feed pad, mixer wagon and have recently signed up to halter for milkers and dry stock. We do our own machinery work like planting, spraying, fertiliser and silage. Ideally the candidate will have experience in driving tractors. 

You will be encouraged to take responsibility in your role and assist fellow employees with general farm duties. You will have proven experience in Dairy Farming and have an understanding of pastoral farm systems.

Strong communication skills and ability to show initiative are required to work in a team environment.

Key responsibilities will include ensuring cows and young stock are fed as per their grazing plan, maintaining sound animal health and general farm maintenance.

Some Duties involve:

• Managing plant and shed hygiene.
• Helping allocate pasture and supplement feed to both our milkers and young stock (break fences, grazing planner, residuals and silage feeding out)
• Maintaining animal health of livestock (mastitis and lameness detection, treatments, vaccinating, drenching)
• Feeding out (silage bales, mixer wagon)
• Handling Stock (drafting, weighing, yard work)
• Assisting with Calving and calf rearing/ finishing
• Tractor and machinery work
• General farm maintenance/ duties (fencing, weed spraying, effluent management)

You will be working alongside Farm Owners, Farm Manager, 2IC and another Herd Manager on a 6n2 roster.

We are based in the South Waikato with the farm being on flat terrain, an adjoining Sheep Dairy unit and the 2 dry stock blocks nearby.

Relief milking, calf and lamb rearing or other casual work is also available for willing partners.
