Contract Milker – Pongakawa, 550 cow farm

The Farm

Four Oaks Farm is a family-owned Dairy Farm located in Pongakawa, just 15 minutes east of Te Puke township. The location is superb, handy to beaches, lakes and shopping hot spots.

There is an excellent primary school 3 minutes’ drive away, and the school bus comes down the road.  Kindergarten 10 minutes away, and secondary school just 15-20 minutes away.

 The property is, 280 hectares total and 180 hectares milking platform, the contour is a mix of flats through to rolling hills, with some steeper areas.  

There are roughly 550 good quality dairy cows, 20 heifers and 120 calves on the property. The range in contour of the property allows us to run almost all of the stock on the farm with 100 or so heifers at a graziers.

The farms infrastructure is excellent. The well maintained 6-year-old 44 a side herringbone shed, has automatic cup removers and teat sprayer, automatic wash, in shed feeding and pro track drafting. Fences and farm races are all well maintained. 

The farms rivers are fully fenced, and there are extensive native plantings along the river banks and on the stepper hills.  

The housing on the property is of a good, solid, well maintained standard.

The owners would like to be hands off, leaving you to provide a monthly report to them on how the farm is tracking, this means you can continue running your own business producing milk, great stock, and maintaining this wonderfully property.

 

About you

You will have New Zealand experience as a Contract Milker or Farm Manager.  You will be highly organised and excellent with stock and managing all farm operations.   

You will also have the following skills and attributes:

  • Capable in all aspects of dairy farming and feed management.
  • Ability to hire and manager your own team of employees
  • Attention to detail with animal health, measuring, monitoring and recording details.
  • Take pride in your presentation and care of the infrastructure and the aesthetics of the property.
  • Have a friendly and easy going nature.
  • Is a team player.
  • Be well-planned and highly organised.
  • A strong work ethic and the ability to communicate well with the owners.
  • Excellent grazing management and animal health skills.
  • Good understanding and compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act (2015).
  • A good computer literacy, for animal record keeping and providing monthly summary reports to the farm owners.
  • Accurate record keeping and ability to report on stock and feed as required
