The Lincoln University Dairy Farm (LUDF)

The Lincoln University Dairy Farm (LUDF) operates in the top 2-5% on profitability, with low nutrient loss while producing 17-1800kgMS/ha from high quality irrigated pasture. Operating with the support of the farm manager and some of the industry’s best farmers and technical input, LUDF has lifted production through increasing efficiency across the business. The 160 ha fully irrigated farm runs a stocking rate of approximately 3.5 cows/ha (560 cows peak milked) and has a 50 bail rotary dairy with ALPRO milk monitoring, cup removers and Pro Track. We are a demonstration farm focused on best practice for the New Zealand dairy industry. As the longest-running agriculturally-based university in the Southern Hemisphere, Lincoln University’s story begins with farming, but it certainly doesn’t end there. As New Zealand’s economy diversified, so have we. Lincoln University is here to enhance and enrich lives. To grow the knowledge of our students so they can shape a world that benefits from a greater understanding of the relationship between our land, the food produced from it and the ecosystems within it. With three academic faculties, one teaching division, several research centres and a range of corporate service units, the Lincoln University draws its students from throughout New Zealand and from over 60 countries. Lincoln University has a student roll of around 3,000 and approximately 600 staff.
