We have a predominantly all grass system with feed brought in if necessary. The farm size is 527ha running 380 Jersey and Kiwi cross cows on a 154ha milking platform. In the spring we run two herds. The colostrum heard is milked through a 16 bail Rotary shed. The main milker's are milked in a newer 44 bail rotary shed with full herd data flow management software. All our cows have the Allflex rumination and heat collar on which feeds data back to the herd management computer or cell phones. The remainder of the farm is used for the young stock and beef. All stock are wintered on farm and feed supplements are harvested on farm. We have a small cut and carry block up the road which the weaners go to in the autumn.
The Farm is 2014 Greater Wellington Balance Farm Environment awards winner for Donaghys Farm Stewardship, Meridian Energy Excellence and LIC Dairy Farm Award’s. We will continue to strive to improve our genetics gain as part of LIC Sire proving scheme (SPS) since 2014 and are 2022 SPS farm of the year.
