Job Description

Looking for a Herd Manager to join our team. The farm has 210 hectares effective area with 790 peak cows through 40 ASHB.  Farm is flat with Pivot, k line and 3 rotorainer irrigation. Farm is SMOKE FREE and PET FREE.

Job Description:

  • Allocate pasture on daily basis within the feed budget.
  • Feeding out and setting up break fences
  • Implement irrigation requirement
  • Milking efficiently and stress free for people and animals
  • Responsible in maintaining a grade free season
  • Maintaining high standard of cleanliness in the dairy shed and trough out the farm
  • Identifying and treating mastitis cows and lame cows.
  • Identifying other animal health problems and reporting to the farm manager.
  • Assisting in calving, mating and all wintering requirements.
  • Assisting with calf rearing, management of young stock and dry stock including bulls as required.
  • Record keeping - Keeping records of all mastitis treatment given and ensuring animals are marked according to the farm system manual. Recording other treatment as required.
  • Natural resource management - Knowing effluent and nutrient management system for the farm. Ensuring effluent is managed as per the instructions, including all recording requirements. Ensuring all local environment requirement are adhere to. Knowing the regional council compliance requirements.
  • Team responsibilities - Effectively communicating to all members of the team. Committed to learning new skills and attending appropriate training as agreed.
  • Health and Safety - comply with all health and safety requirement.
  • Responsible in maintaining a tidy workplace.

APPLICANTS MUST have the following requirements and experience

  • At least 1-2 years year farm experience OR New Zealand primary industry related qualification.
  • Driver's license and can drive 2-wheeler, and manual vehicles.
  • Be able to drive Tractor
  • Pass the pre-employment drug test (random drug test is performed anytime)
  • Physically fit and in good health. (lifting heavy loads required)
  • Able to work weekends and early start
  • Attitude must be on time, positive, have strong ethics and show initiatives
  • Knowledge to calve cows and have stock handling skills
  • knowledge in pasture, mating and milk quality management
  • Identify and treat common health problems
  • Safe machine and vehicle operation
