Sealach Ltd is looking for a main calf rearer for Sunset Farm which is located close to Oamaru at Kia Ora.
Sealach Ltd operates 3 dairy farms in north Otago. The ideal candidate will be responsible for carrying out and implementing the calf rearing policies, and carrying out the day to day of rearing replacement calves from birth to weaning.
Your role may include but is not limited to
Setting up calf shed and equipment at the beginning of the season
teaching new calves to drink, and ensuring all get gold colostrum in a timely manner
feeding calves inside the shed and out in the paddock
feeding and managing bobby calves
managing milk/meal/weaning transition with weighing and drafting and following feed programme
carrying out animal health and vaccination programme
adhering to daily hygiene and cleaning requirements
ensuring dry feed/bedding and water is always topped up and clean
dealing and treating with any sick calves appropriately
recording all feed/health and management events
As this farm is located close to Oamaru, this is an ideal "drive in" position. There is accommodation available near Duntroon if required.
Experience is preferred.
Willowcliff and Whitecliff are dairy farms located on the downlands of North Otago 25 minutes inland from Oamaru and 5 minutes from Duntroon. A mixture of k-line irrigation on rolling country, pivot irrigation and fixed grid irrigation. Waikato rotary cowsheds with cup removers, auto teat spray, protrack, inshed feeding etc. First class equipment to get the job done and a high BW DNA crossbred herd doing in excess of 550MS. Hunting and 4wd in the Oteake conservation reserve, fishing on the doorstep, nearby Tokarahi golf course, the Waitaki lakes, Elephant Rocks, and Alps to Ocean cycle track make it a recreational paradise.
