Trainee Farm Assistant (PART TIME ROLE)

This is a part time role, with the idea that you will be studying while working.

Hours will be negotiable. 

We are a 150 cow System 2 family owned and operated dairy unit. We are currently looking for a dairy trainee to assist during calving this season, with the idea of working towards progressing in the industry.

You will be working closely with the Sharemilker to run the farm on a day-to-day basis. All on farm training will be provided, and we encourage and support further training in ITO or similar skills courses.

Your role will primarily consist of milking, assisting with calf rearing, general maintenance, and animal wellbeing. 

Key attributes/skills:

·       Teamwork – great communication skills, can take direction and able to work unsupervised.

·       Technology & machinery – safely operate equipment and utilise on-farm technologies.

·       A passion for dairy farming, caring for animals and a high level of work quality & hygiene.

A proactive can-do attitude is a must, and you will have a solid understanding of what good health and safety on-farm looks like. This role is physical in nature and requires a good level of fitness.

The role would suit someone who is interested in getting into the industry. Quiet stock handling is important as we like to operate a low stress dairy herd.

There is no accommodation on farm so would suit someone who is happy to travel in each day. Ohope is 10 minutes drive. Whakatane and Opotiki are both a 30 min drive.

This is a trainee role, so is only suited for someone who is interested in starting out in the field.

This role is not for visa workers, unless you have your own accomodation and can travel to farm each day and have at least 12 months remaining on your work/holiday visa.
