The farm is targeting 185,000 kg MS for the 2022/23 season from 520 peak cows milked. The farm has averaged 182,910 kg MS over the past two seasons.
Planned start of calving is the 1st July with dry off typically in April. Cows are milked twice a day from calving and with young cows milked once a day for the second half of the season.
The dairy unit is supported by a 28 hectare support block which is used to graze calves, grow maize silage and winter cows
Replacement heifers are reared on farm to weaning and grazed on the support block until 1st of May. Yearling heifer replacements are then sent off to grazing for 12 months (May to May).
The farm is of flat to rolling contour with a combination of lower lying peat soils and higher pumice soils.
Farm infrastructure includes a 35 aside herringbone cowshed with a Packo Ice Bank milk cooling system, and a range of implement/calf sheds.
It is expected that the farm will be staffed with a minimum of 2.5-3.0 full time labour units (FTE’s) plus casual labour as required.
