We operate two farms, one near Methven and one near Hinds, both around 700 cows, with rotary cowsheds with cup removers and in shed feeding. The farms are predominantly pivot irrigated, with the Methven farm also having some klines and sprinklers, and Hinds rotorainers and sprinklers. The farms run with a team of 3 year round, plus an extra team member over calving and mating.
Around 700 kg/cow of imported feed is fed during lactation. Calves are fed ad lib in the shed and then OAD in the paddock. 10 in 7 milking is used in the second part of the season, normally from around the end of January.
