Due to an internal promotion, we are pleased to be able to offer a junior role, primarily on the beef side of our business - but with a relief dairy farming component.
Our farm milks 550 spring calving crossbred cows once a day through a 30 aside cowshed with cup removers. All calves born are reared by backpackers employed for 4 months. During the busy calving season the 2 beef herd managers are primarily involved in a farm assistant capacity on the dairy farm.
During calving the roster is 12 days on 2 days off, but most of the year is 11 days on 3 days off. The beef herd managers may be required to milk on weekends or when dairy staff availability is low (eg taking leave). For this reason some dairy farming experience is essential.
In the advertised role you will be allocated an area of the beef farm to implement a grazing plan provided to you by the farm owner. Your main areas of responsibility include maintaining high volts, fence repairs, water system maintenance, animal...
